Landscape Hill

Paul and Casey are the owners of Landscape Hill, a small garlic farm in the granite country of Tallarook Ranges. They focus on sustainable farming practices and long keeping garlic varieties, aiming to provide high quality Australian grown garlic year-round at local community and farmers markets.

The pair of scientists started experimenting with growing garlic in 2019. About 30 types of garlic were initially tested before settling on the eight that do well in the weathered granitic soils of the farm.

The experiments continue, with another 17 garlics trialled in 2025 to improve their offering of early and late purple garlics. Much of the last five years has also been spent improving the soils using natural methods including green manure crops, worm castings and a lot of chook poo.

Casey & Paul have become familiar seasonal traders since 2024 at the Tallarook Farmers Market on the first Sunday of the month and the Lancefield & District Farmers Market on the fourth Saturday of the month. As Brunswick West locals for the past two decades (four days a week for their ‘day’ jobs), they have also started selling at the Flemington Farmers Market once a month on Sundays.

Other stockists of Landscape Hill garlic are Baracca Lane in Seymour (best gnocchi!) and Fresh Food Boxes.

"We started growing garlic because we were frustrated at not being able to buy Australian garlic in winter - and have now been totally sucked in trying different types and learning the peculiarities of each!! We did our first market in December 2023 at the Tallarook Farmers Market, just down the hill from the farm."
